And yet another two-toned MCM!

Here is the latest in my mcm marathon.  As I mentioned previously, I am working my way through my stash of pieces, next up is a long credenza and matching nightables that are going to get a re-stain.  Too beautiful to paint!

For this little gem, I decided to go for a slightly different look.  The top was in such fantastic condition that I decided to restain, rather than paint the whole outter casing white.

This is a little extra work, but fortunately the finish wasn’t super thick and glossy, so it sanded pretty easily.

Only the front facing trim was painted in off-white. Oh and the legs too as I wanted to create a sense of airiness.  The rest of the dresser and drawer facings were re-stained in walnut.

I love this little honeycomb-esq detailing on the top drawers, adds just that little bit of detail and texture to the piece.

I was a little nervous about how just painting the front trim would turn out (and not the entire casing), but I have to say Im pleasantly surprised.  It adds just that little bit of interest and contrast, yet still retains the charm of the wood.

Union Jack: The Sequel

Round two!  My other union jack dresser was pretty rustic and vintage inspired.  I went for a different feel with this one.  I wanted it to feel a little playful, a little retro, a little 'Andy Warhol pop culture'.

I used a lighter shade of blue, almost a duck egg, but combined that with the bold red.  Instead of painting the whole body of the dresser blue, I opted for white to keep it light and fresh.

The hardware is shiny silver.  I love the retro feel the little knobs give.

Its pretty neat how you can work one flag so many ways!  Ive seen so many cool renditions of the Union Jack in Blogland.

Triple Dip the MCMD

Ok, if you have seen my earlier posts, you will definitely recognize this look!  I love turquoise, I love two-toned, and I love MCM dressers!  Those three loves saw me create a very similar dresser to one I did before.

It is actually a different colour than the previous one, but it only by a shade or two.

I decided to keep the original wood pulls, but just paint them out to match the rest of the dresser.  I opted for white so that they would blend it rather than draw too much attention to themselves.

It looked too plain after I painted the front all white, so I added the three racing stripes to give her some more interest.  I affectionately refer to her as 'triple dip'.  Mr. Chuckles thinks its funny that I give all of my pieces names.  I like to assign a personality to them based on their attributes, and it helps keep me organized when I store all my pics in folders under their 'name'.

And here is the before!
